When I was a kid, I didn’t really like music, I felt it got in the way of my glorious cartoons that I couldn’t get enough of. A lot later as a teen I started to listen to house music and a lot of Sipho Gumede and his likes. (God rest his soul), today I met someone I have always held in such high esteem. She did her piece in such amazing grace, such a wealth of maturity. I shook her hand twice, the deep and soulful Simphiwe Dana. Her hand felt warm and hearty. I know she connected with the moment, perhaps too much hope, lol. I was somewhat electrified in a graceful manner unlike the common idolatry of Hollywood.
Simphiwe Dana was looking stunning on the most beautiful African warm weather evening one could envisage. It was quite hot in the room as well, but I think the powers that be did that on purpose. Nedbank our host for the night was on the ball. Making sure those sexy young ladies in their size 24 green sweet dresses were hovering around, doing nothing but just looking beautiful.
I made a fool of myself once and had too much on my plate at a delicious buffet in one of e-TV’s Johannesburg events (I’ll not get into that right now, nor ever…)*Embarrassed*. The atmosphere was one of the best among these kinds of events. It was interesting to see Nedbank mix itself with a creative kind of crowd. I would have expected them to host a corporate dinner with a three course meal. To my delight my expectations were brought to an abrupt halt.
Beautiful models dressed by the gorgeous Gert Johan Coetzee, Mr designer professionaire… (*add Italian hand gesture*) Such delicate, bold and un-apologetic beauty these tall queens posess, I fall at my feet for the pleasure my lens experienced. The models wearing Gert’s designs are some of the most stunningly beautiful ladies I have ever laid eyes on.
The way these lovely specimens of ladies were staged was a glorious sight to be beheld on its own. Simphiwe Dana shining a light of her own in her own right, I unfortunately had not known so vividly how beautiful Simphiwe really is, to have her smile to my lens is the experience of a lifetime that was only to short lived. There in my midst, shaking my “nobody” hand… It was quite the moment to me because this is my Africa’s queen of Soul. I have not come across such music that touches my being as does hers. UZandisile. Those African sounds and rhythms, the beats that come from a place only Simphiwe would know and articulate.
I honestly thought she would be this elderly lady with a length of dreadlocks like very good looking Gugu in her pink dress on the night. I hope to meet her again, perhaps even learn to make music from her like she does, lol. Who knows? Editor in Chief [Mrs…] of Cosmopolitan was also at this prestigious event. Meeting her for the second time after her own Cosmopolitan Sexiest Man of the Year event at Taboo/ Hush in Sandton ealier this year, Mrs was looking her usual stunning self with a certain flair that one would imagine when thinking of the nobles of old.
