HEELED UP AND READY TO ROCK WOMAN’S MONTH
I was at a friend’s 24th birthday surprise party in Hyde Park; when a conversation about high heels started at our dinner table. One lady said she doesn’t understand why tall women have to wear high heels. As a proud 1.73cm tall lady that rocks 9 sometimes 12 inch heels, I had to object to her statement. But to make matters worse my friend who’s just a few centimetres taller than me, didn’t back me up, instead she agreed. I couldn’t believe my ears; it felt like I was being discriminated against.
Okay emotions aside, since its woman’s month and high heels are usually won by women, though initially made for men. Yes men, (I’ll delve into that in just a moment). I decided to do a bit of digging concerning high heels; you know, just to clue myself up about the history of my beloved shoes. Also to find out why these shoes are loved and dreaded by some, my inquisitive mind led me to various discoveries, the quest being the age old question as to why women love and wear high heels.
A bit of a history lesson before continuing, according to Wikipedia; “high-heeled shoes or boots have more often been worn by women, in various times and places but they have been standard features of men’s footwear too, either for practical reasons or as fashionable items.” “It is said that Egyptian butchers wore high heels so they would not step directly on offal (internal organs of a butchered animal). Pharaohs and nobles of Ancient Egypt would also wear high heels to show power and for ceremonial purposes.” I was really amazed to discover this, as I cannot begin to imagine guys in high heels. Can you? I earnestly can’t.
Enough about history and back to the 21st century, I have come to realize that different women wear high heels for a number of different reasons. Without sounding cocky, I’d like to speak for myself. I wear high heels simply because I LOVE them, and being in them with my 1.73cm height makes me feel like a supermodel. I kid you not. I feel like I can take on the world and conquer anything that comes my way.
Truth be told high heeled shoes are the sexiest make of shoes mankind has ever mastered to craft. Personally I love the way they force one to walk in that Naomi Campbell slash Tyra Banks trademark move on a fierce runway. That’s if you know how to walk in them in the first place. Because if you can’t, this can be really awkward and uncomfortable, causing one to despise heels and to never bother.
So to be safe rather than sorry, it is better to learn how to walk in them properly. I’m sure there is a YouTube video out there in the World Wide Web, giving lessons on how to rock them properly. Lol
There are numerous reasons why women wear high heels. Some wear them to enhance their stature (holler to my shorties out there) *clears throat*. For some it’s a matter of status, confidence, elegance, posture, sex appeal, and the list goes on. Whatever your reason is for wearing or not wearing high heels, remember to always stand tall with your head held up high.
