One on one interview with Inside a Thug’s Heart Author Angela Ardis
Many people have really come to accept the age old phrase that beauty and brains don`t mix. At just over 35, there are very few women I have met with such exceptional beauty. When it comes to intellectual prowess, I have not come across such unique ingenuity, such compassionate love and a desire to touch the hearts of multitudes. I was really left to simmer in my own deep thoughts after Angela’s responses to my intimate questions, the woman truly is phenomenal, she has a deepness to her that rivals the deepest well I have ever even known of in life.
I began conversations with Miss Angela Ardis almost two weeks ago , but rest assured, I feel like I’ve known her for a life time now. I think it has to do with how much one can easily relate to her passion for the written word whether by oneself or another. When I first heard the rumours that Angela Ardis the renowned “Inside A Thug’s Heart” author was soon to be visiting the mother continent for a tour. I was set on getting an interview with her.
I wasted no time in approaching Miss Ardis, and she gently agreed with a sudden request for interview questions. I must say I was spurred on by her speedy response. After collecting myself and my thoughts I began pondering really hard to really get questions that would dig deep into Angela’s soul. It was a task to sit and think what would truly stimulate and challenge such a dynamic person. Our readers will be immersed in the passion and inspiration.
Q’s and A’s between Refilwe and Angela
“I hope this leaves you as inspired as it did me”
Who are you in your own perspective, in the same way a best friend would describe you, how would you describe yourself?
I’m a good person. I’m compassionate, generous, and committed to all relationships, whether it’s friends, family or mate. I’m extremely creative and sometimes find it difficult to focus on any one thing for too long. Learning how to focus has been something I’ve had to work very hard on. I’m not the most patient person in the world. I want what I want when I want it and feel like “no” is never a definitive answer. If there’s a will there’s a way! LOL! I am always trying to find the best in most people and trying to always exude the best, me, I can.
Before all of the fame, before all of the books and the writing, who are you and who where you then?
I have been writing since the age of seven, so that’s something that has always been a part of my soul. Before ‘Inside A Thug’s Heart’, I was the same person I’ve always been. I believe, as with everyone, we are always searching to be better, to do more and to find that “thing” we feel most connected to. I was modeling and acting when I wrote the book. Although I love those professions too, I feel equally as connected to my gift of writing. I’ve always wanted to touch people or help people through the arts. Based on the enormous amount of fan mail I’ve received over the years, I’ve definitely done that, mostly, through my writing.
As a 21st century woman that writes and does a number of successful media activities, what inspires you?
I’m inspired by possibility.
Because I write novels, television shows, movies, and animation, I tend to watch all forms of media completely different than a general audience. When I see something that hasn’t been done before, that inspires me.
When you were young, “your very oldest memory”! Who do you remember yourself looking up to or who then was your greatest mentor of all time?
Not trying to be cliché’ but I’d have to say my mother. Watching her, successfully and sometimes unsuccessfully, find her way, maintain constant strength, perseverance, fortitude and never skipping a beat on showing love, gave me a fantastic foundation which has allowed me the ability to create a blueprint, for myself encompassing the wherewithal to strive no matter what obstacles present themselves.
If you were to go back in time would you do anything differently?
No. I believe we are put here to experience everything we experience, in the space and time in which we experience it. Who we meet, what we go through, the choices we make, the processes we experience, aren’t by mistake. We become who we are, have what we have, create what we create, and live how we live because of each and every experience.
I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be right now and I wouldn’t have changed a thing.
What is most important to you in this life?
What’s most important in my life is happiness. I strive to do things that awaken my soul and make me feel truly happy. I believe my purpose is to touch people with words, whether it’s through a novel, television program, movie, magazine or other entity. When I’m in that creative space, I’m happy. When I’m thinking about my next projects, I’m happy. When I receive fan mail informing me that I’ve touched someone’s life, I’m happy. When I’m with my family and we’re in alignment, I’m happy. Good food, great friends, and having a sense of purpose, makes me happy. Shopping definitely makes me happy! It’s most important that I align with things, people and relations that make me happy. Everything else is simply a distraction and not worthy of time being spent on it.
So we found out from the social networking platforms that you use, that you have recently released your poetry book “MY MIND’S POETRY: RELATIONSHIPS VOL 1”. What kind of poetry do you write and what period of your life does it span?
This first one is focused mainly on relationships. Each Volume following will have its own source topic. I write an array of poetry ranging from relationships, life, inspiration and self-discovery to social injustice, racial divides, and erotica. The period within this book spans from age 15 to 39.
I also have a novel coming out worldwide April 1, 2013 called “The Block”. It’s part of a trilogy. It will be available through all Amazon.com countries. It’s a heavy read but will awaken your soul regarding child abuse. The sequel to “The Block” will be out before the end of the year.

What draws you to Africa, when did you start having a longing to visit your old continent?
It’s funny because I feel like I’ve always had a connection to Africa. I can’t truly tell you when and where it originated from but it’s always been in me. I remember my very first piece of fan mail came from South Africa via email. I’d done a satellite radio interview during my tour and afterwards, my email was flooded with amazing letters from all over Africa.
I think I’ve talked about it so much over the years that it came to fruition. LOL! There have been so many signs along the way and I never ignore the signs. It feels right and the timing is perfect.
What are your religious beliefs, whether or not you have any, surely you have an opinion or two about religion?
Religion isn’t something I discuss in open forums.
Are you or have you ever been involved in any political activities and what do you think about politicians?
No, I haven’t been involved in any political activities other than voting for our President, Barack Obama. My views on politics is something, again, I keep close to my chest. I think when discussing politics and religion, people are sometimes so passionate about their beliefs, thoughts and opinions that it can hinder relationships. So I try to steer clear from both topics in interviews.
What are some of your own philosophies?
I believe we have the ability to be and do whatever we want in this life. I believe hard work, dedication and perseverance pay off. I believe fear holds most people back from finding and pursuing their purpose. People are so worried about what everyone else thinks and less about what “they” think or know to be their truths.
Live your truth, your purpose and for your happiness. There is no one in the entire world who can be YOU…so be the best you! You’re the only example of YOU we have!
